Sergei Hudi lives a modern urban life but keeps in close contact with his numerous relatives who wander the tundra hunting, fishing, and reindeer herding—maintaining the traditions of their ancestors. Switching gears between the city life with its quick tempo, mobile phones, and internet and the meditative visits to the tundra, he guides the viewers into the everyday life of the Nenets on the Yamal peninsula. The centuries-old way of life of the tundra inhabitants slips away faster than ever. The film is a sensitive account about how modern civilization affects the lives of the indigenous people of the North living in the tundra and in the city. Along with expanding invasion of technologies, the Nenets preserve their culture but also change with the times. Will the expanding city fully transform their lifestyles?
