A look at Cuba and its residents through the objects they use to replace what is not available on the market. Do-it-yourself goods are made with extreme ingenuity and imagination out of anything that comes to hand. Meet the guy who refurbishes toilets; the choreographer who, in the face of electricity shortages, creates a silent ballet; and other artisans who invent, adapt and try to make a living. This documentary is a testament to the spirit of individual initiative and creativity of the island’s residents, which have survived years of oppressive regime and extreme material shortages. Interviews with Cubans testify to an amazing will to persevere and even burst forth with optimism.
