Since Hungary became part of the Schengen area, the control stations on the Hungarian-Austrian border, among them the one in Nickelsdorf/Hegyeshalom, were removed. Yet the border persists culturally and socially, based on historical resentments and new European laws. 25 years after the fall of the Iron Curtain, the border still exists as division in income and life standards. And for those who travel to and within Europe without the necessary papers, the borders become challenging barriers to cross in pursuit of a better life. Minor Border looks into a changing meaning of borders in the European Union whose citizens are increasingly polarized on the issues of migration and free population movements.
