The Village of Roses follows a Roma community near Milan and one family living there over the course of nearly six years. Every morning, the school bus passes the children by—a seemingly ordinary incident that gradually exposes the prejudices and political tensions surrounding the community. Hanna Heilborn’s camera stays close to the family, capturing their everyday lives, joys, and struggles, while showing how the Roma settlement becomes a target of far-right politics. The family’s story is interwoven with archival television footage and conversations with Roma activist Dijana Pavlovic.
