Far From Being Lipizzans

Olga Kosanović is a director, screenwriter and teacher based in Vienna. In 2020 she completed her film studies at the HFBK in Hamburg. In 2017/18 she was an exchange student at the FAMU Film Academy in Prague. She is also a graduate of the Graphische and independent film school "Friedl Kubelka" in Vienna. Her films were screened at numerous international festivals, in 2021 she was awarded the 3Sat Emerging Talent Award for her film “Comrade Tito, I inherit” at the Oberhausen Short Film Festival, got nominated for the German Shortfilmaward LOLA and received the austrian Filmprize 2022. In 2023 her Shortfilm "Land of Mountains" was awarded with Best Newcomer Award at Diagonale Filmfestival in Austria, followed by the Award for Best midlength Film aswell as Audience Award at the Filmfestival Max Ophüls Preis in Germany 2024.

The Family Approach

Daniel Abma was born in 1978 in Westerbork, Drenthe, Netherlands. After a degree in primary school education, he moved to Berlin to be a youth media worker. Then he studied film directing at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF in Potsdam, where he realised the feature-length documentaries Beyond Wriezen (Nach Wriezen, Grimme Award, 2012) and Transit Havana (2016), The Family Approach (2024). His documentary films about social themes are observatory and based on people. Since 2017, Abma has taught documentary film directing. He also tutors pitching workshops at European film festivals and is still a freelance youth media worker.

Tell Them About Us

Rand Beiruty is a writer, director, and co-founder of Shaghab Films, a production company based in Amman, Jordan. She holds a practice-based Ph.D. revolving around questions of representation and participatory filmmaking from the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf. She has pitched her projects on international platforms and received awards from, among others, the Tribeca Film Institute, Mifa Animation du Monde, the Arab Cinema Center, and the European Network of Young Cinema. Her debut feature documentary Tell Them About Us (2024) premiered at CPH:DOX and received the ECFA Award for Best European Feature Documentary for Young Audience at the 64th Zlín International Film Festival.

Two years later, The Dreamed Ones won Best Feature Film at the same festival. The Waldheim Waltz received several prizes including the Glashütte Original – Documentary Award at the 2018 Berlinale and was also nominated as Austria’s entry for the Oscars. In 2022, Mutzenbacher screened in the Encounters section of the Berlinale where it won the award for Best Film.

Matter Out of Place

Director, producer, writer and cinematographer, Nikolaus Geyrhalter was born in Vienna, Austria in 1972. Geyrhalter's static-camera, well-paced observational films tackle their subjects head-on, whether it's exploring the terrain in Chernobyl, Ukraine (Pripyat), tracing the route of the Dakar Rally (7915 Km), or investigating the production of processed foods (Our Daily Bread). At the age of 22, Geyrhalter started his own production company, Nikolaus Geyrhalter Filmproduktion (NGF). Geyrhalter examined night labor in Europe with Abendland (2011) and landscapes of urban decay across the world in Homo Sapiens (2016). The latter film played at the Berlinale Forum, the Hong Kong International Film Festival, the Cinéma du Réel Festival, the Edinburgh International Film Festival, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and the Viennale. In 2015, Berlin's Arsenal Cinema programmed a retrospective dedicated to his work. The 38th Cinéma du Réel Festival programmed a sidebar on his documentaries. Geyrhalter's films have also screened at the Museum of Modern Art's Doc Fortnight.

Girl Gang

Susanne Regina Meures was born in 1977, in Germany. She studied photography and art history at The Courtauld Institute of Art in London. She holds a Master in Film from ZHdK. Raving Iran, her first feature-length documentary, brought her international festival and box-office success. The film screened at countless festivals and won numerous awards. Saudi Runaway premiered at Sundance, and among other prizes, was nominated for the European Film Award in 2020. Girl Gang is her third feature-length documentary.
