Trends in the Documentary World: Should We Care?
Documentary films are in-depth and informative resources that provide the perfect platform to launch dialogues on important themes. But what themes are worthy of full-screen attention? Should we care about trends when making a documentary? Every director must decide the artistic and economic priorities in their work. Do they go their own way creatively, no matter what, or should they observe the trends and buying patterns of festivals, distributors, and streaming services in order to tailor their content to market demand? In this panel, experts from all areas of the documentary world will discuss the importance of the documentary’s topic. They will also address how to find your our own voice when making an internationally relevant film. Furthermore, they will touch upon the themes that have emerged in a world shaken and transformed by the pandemic, and in what ways they be made into documentary films that reach and move an international audience.
