Hungarian Competition
For Verzió, showcasing the latest Hungarian documentaries is about more than presenting new films: it is also an opportunity to shed light on the realities and experiences of contemporary Hungarian society. This year’s selection offers a diverse portrait of Hungary today through stories of a young rapper’s sudden rise to fame (Meant to Be), an elderly man’s search for a place to call home and patriarchal patterns passed down through generations (Papa), teenagers navigating their years at an alternative school (Bakpakk), the silenced past of a family home (Alattunk dobog), the power of community in the theatre (Theater from Mud), and the legacy of a poet’s life and work (If You Want to Be a Poet). Through a range of personal experiences, the films explore family, generations, identity, social legacies, and the search for one’s own voice.
