Rebellion

Maia is an independent documentary filmmaker from London. She has directed and produced films for charities and arts organizations, and taught creative workshops in schools and universities across the UK. With a background in history and art, she has always been interested in visual storytelling and the ways it can connect us to each other. In 2018 she met the co-founders of Extinction Rebellion and has spent the last four years immersed in the world of activism.

Elena is a Spanish filmmaker based in London. She is a self-shooting director and editor, keen on capturing the nuanced and complicated ways in which we are human. Her previous work includes films for public sector institutions such as the National Housing Federation and Arts Council England, as well as private clients like the NBA, MTV, and NBC. She runs workshops for filmmakers and teaches in the Documentary Film MA program at University College London. This is the first feature film she has directed.

The North Drift

Steffen Krones – also known as LAX – is a German director and filmmaker. As a young skateboarder, he started to abstract his surroundings. Architecture, people, weather, and light settings seemed to matter for this kind of sport. It also brought him out into the world to discover new opinions, lifestyles, architecture, vegetation, and of course, other people. He moved to Canada and lived in Vancouver for a year after finishing school. Today he is a freelancer based in Dresden, Germany, without attachment to any locality. He works with several filmmakers and artists who travel the world producing award-winning films, commercials, music videos, and short films.

Three Minutes – A Lengthening

Bianca Stigter is a historian and cultural critic. She made the short film essays Three Minutes - Thirteen Minutes - Thirty Minutes (2014) and I Kiss This Letter - Farewell Letters from Amsterdammers (2018). She is associate producer of Steve McQueen’s feature films 12 Years a Slave and Widows. In 2019 she published the book "Atlas of an Occupied City: Amsterdam 1940-1945".

Riotsville, U.S.A.

Sierra Pettengill’s films have played at Sundance, Locarno, True/False, on PBS, CNN, Netflix, and in festivals around the world. She produced the Oscar-nominated Cutie and the Boxer, and in 2018 was a Sundance Institute Art of Nonfiction Fellow. Pettengill is an archivist for many artists, including Jim Jarmusch and Adam Pendleton. She is also a board member of Screen Slate.

Burial

Emilija Škarnulytė (born in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 1987) is an artist and filmmaker. Working between documentary and the imaginary, Škarnulytė makes films and immersive installations exploring deep time and invisible structures: from the cosmic and geologic, to the ecological and political. Winner of the 2019 Future Generation Art Prize, Škarnulytė represented Lithuania at the XXII Triennale di Milano. Recent solo exhibitions include: Tate Modern (2021), Kunsthaus Pasquart (2021), and the National Gallery in Vilnius (2021). Her films are in the IFA, Kadist Foundation and Centre Pompidou collections, and have been screened at the Serpentine Gallery, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and at numerous film festivals. She is a founder and co-director of Polar Film Lab, and a member of the artistic duo, New Mineral Collective.

The Missing Tale

Klára Trencsényi is an award-winning freelance director and cinematographer committed to creative documentaries. She graduated from the Hungarian Film Academy in Budapest as DOP. Her last feature documentary, Train to Adulthood, won – among other prizes – the Golden Dove at DOK Leipzig. She leads courses on documentary filmmaking at CEU.

KIM

Erika Kapronczai graduated from the University of Pécs with a degree in aesthetics, then from the University of Theatre and Film Arts with a degree in film directing. She is co-founder and creative producer of the international audiovisual dream collection DREAMPIRE. In addition to directing short feature films (Well under the Sun; THREESOME), she also produces documentaries and portraits (CEU20; DREAMPIRE; Sajdik; INFORG PORTRAITS; KIM; F - The Man with the Antenna). She is currently working on her first feature film and is supporting first feature projects as a creative producer.

Rocks in a Windless Wadi

EJ Gagui is a Filipino filmmaker residing in Abu Dhabi and Pampanga. His first short film, Ing Tianak, was funded by the Film Development Council of the Philippines for Mit Out Sound 2021. His second short film, Rock in a Windless Wadi, premiered at the Opening Scenes competition at Visions du Réel 2022. He is currently producing both commissioned and independent projects under the regional collective-boutique film company, Eximious Produkt, which he co-founded.

A Portrait on the Search for Happiness

Benjamin Rost studied directing at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, and philosophy in Munich. His films have been screened at festivals like DokLeipzig, Dokfest München, and Max Ophüls Preis a.m.m. He has been part of the scholarship program of the “Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes” since 2016. In 2017–2019, he lived in South Africa and Rwanda, supporting the German Development Organisation (GIZ) with the launch of the youth television channel “Iwacu”. In 2019 he participated in the Documentary Campus Masterschool with #Harraga. A Portrait on the Search for Happiness is his graduate film.
