The Golden Thread

Nishtha Jain is an internationally-recognized filmmaker based in Mumbai. She is best known for Gulabi Gang (2012), Lakshmi and Me (2007), and City of Photos (2004). Her films examine lived experiences at the intersection of gender, caste, and class. They explore the political in the personal, and uncover the mechanisms of privilege. She’s worked across various platforms: documentary, narrative, virtual reality, and TV series. Her films have been widely screened at film festivals and art-house cinemas, and broadcast on TV. They have won over 25 international awards and have been reviewed by print media and academic journals.

Songs of Earth

Margreth Olin is a Norwegian director and producer. She has made 13 films, all of which have received critical acclaim and catalyzed important dialogues on their chosen topics. Olin has participated in numerous international festivals, and has won several Norwegian and international awards, including the 2022 Chicken & Egg Award, and together with Joachim Trier, Deeyah Khan and Nils Gaup, the Anders Jahre Culture Award 2022, Norway’s greatest honor for outstanding cultural effort. Olin was one of the six directors chosen for Wim Wenders series, Cathedrals of Culture.

5 Seasons of Revolution

Born in Damascus, Lina is a documentary filmmaker, journalist and camerawoman. She has documented events in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Turkey over the past ten years. She holds a master’s degree in documentary filmmaking from Essex University. Lina made short and medium-length documentaries, and her debut feature, 5 Seasons of Revolution, premiered at the Sundance World Cinema Documentary Competition in 2023.

Motherland

Alexander Mihalkovich is Belarusian-Ukrainian director and producer. He graduated with a PhD in library science, and holds an MA in film directing from DocNomads. He focuses on long-term projects with which he feels a close personal relationship. He produces experimental and creative documentaries with beautiful cinematography and a clear director’s vision. After creating several short documentary and experimental films, he made his debut feature film, My Granny from Mars. It had a successful theatrical release in Ukraine, and has been selected for numerous international film festivals (DOK.fest München 2019, Beldocs Belgrade 2019, Sarajevo IFF DocuTalents Award 2018, Jihlava IDFF 2018, Eastern Neighbours Film Festival 2019 – as the opening night film – among many others).

Hanna Badziaka is a filmmaker with a background in journalism. She graduated with a master’s degree in philology from the Belarusian State University in 2010. She began her career as a video journalist for independent online media, and later worked for the only independent TV channel in Belarus. As a journalist, she focused on social issues and topics related to everyday life. After gaining extensive experience in creating in-depth video reports, she became interested in documentary filmmaking. She then participated in creating several documentaries, and worked as a director and scriptwriter for TV projects focused on short documentaries. Motherland, which she co-directs, is her feature documentary debut.

Inka Achté 2012-ben végzett az Egyesült Királyságban a Nemzeti Film és Televízió Iskolában dokumentumfilm-rendező MA szakon. Még ugyanebben az évben befejezte két, díjnyertes rövidfilmjét (The Wait, Alppikatu 25 - Home to the Homeless). Első játékfilmje, a 2018-as Boys Who Like Girls több mint 30 nemzetközi filmfesztiválra eljutott, mint például a Sheffield DocFest, a Nordisk Panorama és a DocNyc fesztiválokra. A filmkészítés mellett a Taskovski Films és az Autlook Filmsales vállalatoknál dokumentumfilm-forgalmazással is foglalkozott. A Helsinkiben működő Raina Film Festival Distribution egyik alapítója.

Radji

Georg Götmark has a degree in film and cultural studies from Stockholm University and the Universidad Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. He has also completed a post-graduate course at the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm. Georg is currently working as a producer and director at Filmfront Media AB, which he co-founded. He has worked with documentaries and in TV since 2001. He has worked on a number of international documentary projects, such as The Last Lacandones, a film about Mayan Indians, shot in Mexico; Transit Tanger, about Moroccans dreaming of a new life in Europe; and Citizen Oketch, about a family living in the Kibera slum outside of Nairobi. His first feature creative documentary, Bellum – The Daemon of War (2021), was about AI, robotics, and ethics. Georg has traveled extensively producing a number of TV series and reports for Swedish television, and educational films for universities, organizations and companies.

John Erling Utsi is a freelance Sami filmmaker and journalist with an extensive career at SVT-Sápmi.

1987-ben, Vilniusban született művész és filmkészítő. Dokumentarista és kitalált elemeket ötvözve készít filmeket és magával ragadó installációkat, amelyekben a mindent elnyelő idővel és láthatatlan rendszerekkel (kozmikus, geológiai, ökológiai, politikai stb.) kísérletezik. Magnus Gertten is a director and producer born in Limhamn, Sweden, in 1953. He was a television and radio journalist for several years before turning to filmmaking in 1998. He has made 15 documentaries for Swedish and international television, which have been broadcast and screened at festivals in more than 60 countries, and which have won numerous awards. He works as a director, producer, narrative consultant, and adviser for his film production company, Auto Images.

The Myanmar Film Collective is a group of anonymous young filmmakers in Myanmar, working with an anonymous group of European film professionals, who, as an act of creative resistance, are determined to continue making films in the aftermath of the military coup of 1 February.
