Alicia was 12 months old when she was removed from her home. She was placed in an orphanage at the age of five, and unable to find a new family, remained there at the age of nine. How does growing up deprived of familial love impact a child? For three years, Maasja Ooms followed Alicia through her daily life, emphatically observing her meetings with counselors, peers, her mother, and a younger sibling who has the kind of home Alicia dreams of. Becoming immersed in Alicia's life, the viewer is exposed to her desires and powerlessness, and gains a palpable sense of her lack of perspective. Growing into an unruly teenager, will she feel hopeless and derail? A poignant film about the universal need for love.
